Abstract

Data are presented on 87 patients undergoing chorionic villus sampling procedures by new sampling technique: Transvaginal transmural catheter aspiration method under trasvaginal ultrasound guided at Cheil General Hospital from January, 1991 to
June
1992. Eighty seven pregnant women underwent Transvaginal-Transmural Chorionic villus sampling (TM-CVS) between 8 and 10 weeks of gestation. Sampling was usually carried out at ninth or tenth weeks of gestation (56 cases, 64.3%). Trasnmural
chorionic
villus sampling had an overall success rate of 98.8%, with only one insertion of the guide needle required for 91.9% of patients. Analysis of the 87samples revealed seven anomalities(8%). The spontaneous abortion rate for these method was
1.1%(1/87). Of
87 attemped cases, subchorionic hematoma occurred in 12 cases(13.8%) and vaginal bleeding in 2 cases. These results demonstrate that the transvaginal transmural procedure can be rapidly and effectively incorporated by an operator already
experienced
with transcervical and transabdominal chorionic villus sampling.
